VentureLaunch - Young entrepreneurs, big ideas!

This weekend, Trinity's Innovation Cube was filled with students, parents and some great ideas as VentureLab put on the first annual VentureLaunch competition.

Twelve teams pitched a diverse range of business ideas - eco-friendly lip gloss, a geotag-enabled dog collar, and an app to teach you about landmarks around you when you are travelling - to a panel of distinguished judges. Students from ages 5-17 presented in teams of all sizes - it was great to see the poise, charisma, and energy that every participant brought to the day!

"It was so exciting to see local students coming up with such creative ideas," said judge Emily Bowe. "With some time and coaching, I think there were ideas that have the potential to become real businesses - some of them already are!”

Six teams were awarded seed funding in awards ranging from $1,500-$3,000 to work on their ideas. All teams are invited to participate in a year of mentorship with VentureLab to continue to grow their concept.

VentureLaunch winners Space Comix have already gained some recognition in local media - we're positive they won't be the only ones before long.

A special thanks to State Representative Diego Bernal, Emily Bowe of Weston Urban, Marina Gavito of Tech Bloc, David Geada of Codeup, and VentureLab alumnus Estrella Hernandez for volunteering their time to judge, and to Trinity University for hosting.

Stay tuned to hear more about these teams as they grow their ideas over the course of the year!
