Makers innovate, create, and build to solve problems in the world around them - they are contributing to change happening all around the world. Specifically, students are being shaped and molded as makers in schools across the country everyday; in these environments, students have a unique ability to develop their passions.
What is a maker?
A Maker can be anyone that produces a creation to further their passions. The passion can be a hobby, or a craft, whether that is food, clothing, technology, carpentry, etc. Learn more about the Maker Movement, which is growing globally.

A Makerspace is a hands-on learning environment full of resources that give individuals the opportunity to explore and research.
What’s so great about a makerspace?
Makerspaces encourage teamwork through collaboration, and promote creativity through discovery. In regards to schools, students have the opportunity to use teamwork to solve real world problems through the tools provided to them. Schools around the country are experiencing positive learning benefits from these spaces. The students who utilize the spaces given to them are able to connect and build within a community of their peers. In this community, they can teach and inspire others, allowing for their passions to grow and creations to be made.
My school doesn’t have a ton of technology resources. Can we still have a Makerspace?
Of course! While Makerspaces can be made up of tech-savvy gear, supplies used for simple arts and crafts projects are just as effective. The goal of a Makerspace is to encourage an interest in science, technology or design so ANY resources the school can use is beneficial.
