The Four Types of Entrepreneurs: What Type is Your Child Entrepreneur?

Being an entrepreneur is fun, challenging, and diverse. These four types of entrepreneurs each use a unique skill set to address a unique challenge. See which one your child identifies with most!

The Social Entrepreneur

Social entrepreneurs find ways to combine community and social empowerment with a viable business model. They might sell a product or service, or deve

lop an innovative way to approach a problem. Their solutions might involve a product that betters a community or create jobs for individuals who wouldn't otherwise have them. To ensure success, social entrepreneurs must then find a way to engage customers, and ensure that their product or services will be purchased. Ultimately, social entrepreneurs are known for their passion. They believe that people can contribute in meaningful ways. They also have a  “healthy impatience”. This means that social entrepreneurs won’t wait around for change -- they want to make it happen!

The Nonprofit Entrepreneur

The nonprofit entrepreneur is focused on changing lives, rather than just dollar signs. This means that they apply an entrepreneurial attitude to a mission-focused organization. A mission is the specific positive change they want to impact on a certain group of people. For example, a non profit entrepreneur's goal might be to end hunger, bring communities clean water, or to provide shelter for homeless families. Nonprofit entrepreneurs must express this mission in an engaging, relatable way so that current and future donors continue to care about the nonprofit entrepreneur's work!

Intrapreneurs

An intrapreneur is an employee at an already established company that uses innovation and creativity to address specific problems the company faces. Because intrapreneurs are not starting their own companies, they often face challenges of adopting their creative ideas to the pre-existing conditions of the company. This means that both employers and intrapreneurs must work together to find ways for the company to support the intrapreneurs' endeavors. Intrapreneurs love combining ideas in unique ways. When they are supported, they can help their company achieve amazing things!

For-Profit Entrepreneur

When we imagine entrepreneurs, we usually think about for-profit entrepreneurs. These are individuals who begin as inventors or developers with a great idea that they want to bring to life! They take their skills and vision to develop that idea into a product or service. These entrepreneurs can fall into many categories - tech, data, and service. They work to provide their customers with the best experience possible, and constantly strive to make their product better!
