Do you want to encourage entrepreneurial skills in your students, but fear that your school or district just doesn’t have the resources? Don’t despair–there are a number of ways you can work entrepreneurship development into the curriculum all on your own, without having to wait for school board approval or all that red tape.
Here’s how to do it:
- Start an organization or club. Find a few students who are interested in business and entrepreneurship, and start your own extracurricular club. You can meet once a week to discuss entrepreneurial concepts, do related activities, or even come up with your own business ideas as a group. For help in launching your club, contact VentureLab today. We offer a Club Curriculum that can guide you in creating the best, most successful organization possible.
- Bring in local mentors. Get in contact with the leaders of local organizations, and see if any would be willing to come speak to your class. Have them tell their professional stories, and share with your students what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur. With luck, that mentor might take on some of your students as interns.
- Take a field trip to VentureLab. For this year’s field trip, bring your students to VentureLab for an entrepreneurial adventure! We have something for every interest, whether it’s filmmaking, gaming or music. We can give kids hands-on experience in the things they love.
- Assign entrepreneurship projects. Find ways to work entrepreneurship into your regular lessons and units. For example, if you’re teaching a unit about Helen Keller, have your students come up with product or business ideas that could improve the lives of people with visual and/or hearing impairments. Encourage your students to be creative and innovative with their ideas.
You can also talk to your school principal about adopting VentureLab’s entrepreneurship development curriculum. It’s already in use at a number of San Antonio area schools, and it could be just what your students need to get started. Contact us today to learn more.
