What would you guess is the most beneficial skill a student could master in 2015? Probably technology, right? Actually, while being tech-savvy is certainly crucial to success in this digital age of ours, it’s not the most vital skill by any means. Rather, the various aspects of 21st century learning skills – creativity, hands-on learning, and the ability to take leadership and make decisions – all come together in one discipline: entrepreneurship. Our Gamer class is an awesome example of how students can be introduced to these skills and work together to have fun and learn new things!

At first glance, creativity may not seem like a skill - but when you dissect it a little bit, it’s easy to see the importance of the ability to think outside-the-box. Here at VentureLab we ask our students to go beyond simple and reach for original ideas. Through a wide range of idea creation techniques, students can learn to think creatively and demonstrate their imagination and curiosity. Gamer gives students the opportunity to open their minds to new gaming, design, and creation techniques missed in traditional schools. By all
owing (and encouraging) our students to draw ideas from their surroundings as well as their imagination we provide children with an open and safe environment where they can fail, try again, and constantly improve!

Hands-on learning is one of the best gifts you can give your students. Enriching their learning through experiential learning builds a strong sense of confidence and alleviates self-doubt. Our teachers strive to make every students’ learning experience one of fun and constructive learning. Our campers are always moving, trying new things and expanding their abilities to react, adapt, and listen.

In addition to the skills mentioned above, one of the most important things we teach our students here at VentureLab is the ability to take initiative and be a self directed learner. Many of our students don’t know much about gaming when they start a Gamer camp - but after one week with us they have build an entire video game! This is because our students take the initiative and are natural leaders. Campers research games and features, give each other feedback, and open their minds to new opportunities for learning every day.

Give your students the 21st century learning skills they need to succeed later on in life. Enroll them in one of our Gamer camps or programs, in San Antonio or in Austin, or consider using our state-of-the-art curriculum in your own classroom. Contact the VentureLab team today to learn more.
