If you’re a parent, you probably know that kids love video games. Though many video games aren’t exactly educational, they don’t necessarily have to be a bad thing. In fact, video games can be turned into real, viable learning opportunities if you just know where to look.
At VentureLab, we provide just that. With our kids’ education programs, your child won’t just sit around and play video games. They’ll actually learn how to make their own – using only their creativity and some simple coding!
So next time your child sits down on the couch, controller in hand, ready for a long day in front of the TV screen, why not pose this question: “Would you like to make your own video game instead?” More than likely, they’ll jump at the chance.
Then, you can enroll them in our state-of-the-art Gamer camp, and the dream can begin! Here’s what our Gamer camps entail:
- Students use several programs, such as Puzzlets and Hopscotch, to develop basic skills in design and logic before moving to code.
- They’ll test and provide feedback on pre-made games, and then they’ll begin to build upon those games, adding additional features, levels, interactive elements and more.
- Students will also learn how to conduct market interviews to further improve design and game options, and implementing the basic principles of entrepreneurship in their game development process.
- Finally, students will work together to launch their own gaming company. They’ll discuss pricing, marketing, sales strategy and more.
Once all is said and done, students will be able to take their game home and continue editing and developing the code as they see fit.
