Celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week

Happy GEW! This celebration of all things entrepreneurship, spearheaded by the Kauffman Foundation, is in its 6th year of motivating people all over the world to organize events and gatherings to spread knowledge about entrepreneurship. From local governments to college campuses, many different groups have a strong incentive to encourage interest in entrepreneurship in their communities.

At VentureLab, we're celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week with the release of our CEO Cristal Glangchai's TEDx San Antonio talk, "From Standup to Startup: Growing Girl Techies and Entrepreneurs." Check it out!

There's lots of ways that you and your student can get engaged - see if there are any GEW events in your area or try these activities:

Learn about youth entrepreneurship around the world - Youth entrepreneurship takes on different forms all over the world. Meet young people from all over the world who have found different ways to serve needs in their communities through the Global Youth Entrepreneurship Summit or watch a TED talk from a young businesswoman - how does that influence your student's views of the problems and needs in their own lives?

Shadow an entrepreneur - What's it really like to run your own business? The answer is different for everyone, but a great way to find out is to follow around an entrepreneur during day of work. Whether it's a neighbor, friend, or colleague, given your student a chance to see work through the eyes of someone who is self-employed.

Learn about a new industry - Has your student always been interested in a particular field? Whether they want to learn about alternative energy, filmmaking, or biostatistics, head to the internet or your local library and dive into the details. This is often the first step towards a new entrepreneurial venture - as you learn more about the topic, maybe your student will identify a problem or need that hasn't yet been solved!
