Happy Halloween from VentureLab! In between the costumes and candy, here's some entrepreneurship, STEM, and arts related activities that you and your student can try.
Be a mad scientist
Whatever you're into - whether it's dry ice, exploding candy, or using household materials in new ways to create art, let your student unleash the wacky scientist that lives within us all this Halloween. Science is all about getting creative, trying new things, and making observations - have your student try out different variables in their experiments, record their observations, and draw some conclusions from what they see.
Dig into the numbers with candy
There's lots of math and statistics activities that your student can engage in before diving into that bucket of Halloween candy - compare the nutritional information of different kinds of candy, create a visual bar graph showing how much of different kinds of candy they collected, or play some probability games - what are they most likely to pull out of a bag if they reach in without looking? There's no harm in playing with your candy before you eat it at Halloween.
Have a Halloween swap sale
Everyone has old costume bits stashed away in their closets, never to be seen again - why not briWhng some value to everyone's old costumes and have a swap sale? Organize an event where attendees can bring their old costumes and barter or buy for next year. Your student will get to practice skills in sales and organizing - and there's no scramble to find a costume if you're planning a year in advance!
Holidays are a great chance to incorporate some learning into the fun that's already happening - we hope you have a spooky, sweet, ESTEAM-tastic Halloween!
